The Senegal striker was twice on the scoresheet in the opening minutes to put the tie beyond the reach of Mauricio Pochettino’s men Sadio Mane netted a quickfire double as Liverpool saw off Tottenham 2-0 in the Premier League on Saturday.
The striker was included from the start and his presence appeared to rejuvenate the Reds’ attack as they took the lead inside the first 20 minutes.
Mane opened the scoring in the 16th minute when Georginio Wijnaldum put him through to slot past Hugo Lloris.
And he was on target once again not two minutes later from a scrappy situation in front of goal, to make sure Liverpool took all three points.
