Oyesoji Aremu is Professor of Counselling and Criminal Justice Studies in the Institute for Peace and Criminal Justice Studies, University of Ibadan, Nigeria and also, Director, Distance Learning Centre of the University.
He was the immediate and first Deputy Director (Academic), Distance Learning Centre (22 February, 2011 to 11 February, 2017).
He has held other positions in the University: Sub-Dean (Undergraduate), Faculty of Education (01 August, 2001 to 31 July, 2003), Sub-Dean (Postgraduate), Faculty of Education (01 August, 2008 to 31 July, 2009). He was also at different periods Assistant Warden and Warden, Nnamdi Azikwe Hall of the University (2004 to 2006, 2009 to 2010 and 2010 to 2011).
Professor Aremu is on the Board of the Board of Baptist Mission Schools of the Nigerian Baptist Convention. He is also on the Appointments and Promotions Committee of the Nigerian Baptist Convention's Tertiary Institutions.
Professor Aremu has served as External Examiner to the following institutions: Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, University of Lagos, Baptist Theological Seminary, Ogbomoso; Osun State University, Osogbo, and Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo.
He was also a visiting lecturer, Delta State University, Abraka.
Professor Aremu who consults for the Nigeria Police Force is on the Board of the following journals: Police Practice and Research, Nigeria Journal of Social Work Education, Ife Journal of Behavioural Research, International Journal of Continuing Education and Development Studies, Journal of Educational Research in Natural and Social Sciences; and Ibadan Journal of Peace and Development.
He is the Editor, Nigerian Journal of Clinical and Counselling Psychology.
His research and publications cover police and policing reforms, academic performance, counselling and criminal justice studies, and recently, open and distance education.
Prof. Oyesoji Aremu is a recipient of the prestigious Commonwealth Fellowship at the Institute of Criminal Justice Studies, University of Portsmouth, United Kingdom and the only Nigerian recipient of Africa Institute of South Africa grant to the project on Triumph of Education in Africa in Pretoria, South Africa, 2011.
Prof. Aremu who has over 100 publications which include books on police is a Justice of the Peace and is widely travelled.
He is happily married with children.
